Situation
L'ile is a small island located in the heart of Carcassonne, well-known to locals as
a haven of peace and tranquillity and ideal for walking, cycling or just relaxing. Our self-catering gite, with its
sheltered patio, also has the benefit of being just minutes' walk away from the medieval walled Cite and the hustle and
bustle of the Bastide St Louis. It is an ideal base for exploring the area, famous for its historical sites and stunningly
beautiful scenery. Subject to availability, we have bikes free of charge for you to explore the area.
Seasonal highlights
Carcassonne is a magical place to visit at any time of year. In spring, the island becomes
a haven for wildlife - you may even see an otter or the occasional deer. Summertime in Carcassonne is fiesta: the festival
de Carcassonne runs from June to September and brings the city alive with concerts, theatrical events and street entertainment.
On Bastille Day, the Cite hosts an unforgettable firework display that is a must-see for everyone, young and old. The
cooler months of autumn, with its beautiful colours, are the ideal time to explore the fascinating Cathar castles. The
animated "Magie de Noel" festival brings the magic of Christmas to all the family throughout December.
